HOW DO THEY DO IT?

METEOROLOGIST HAVE GREAT WEATHER FOR THE

WEATHERMAN'S CLASSIC 2002

HOUSTON – Only a group of dedicated meteorologists could predict that the severe weather would stop in time to host a golf tournament under partly cloudy skies. After a terrible night of flooding, strong gusty winds and frequent lightning, as predicted by meteorologists at Weather Research Center the skies cleared and the meteorologist’s teed off for a wonderful afternoon of gulf. The 7th Annual Weatherman’s Classic Golf Tournament, held Monday, April 8th at Hearthstone, was a great success. This is a charity golf tournament to benefit The Weather Museum at Weather Research Center. Houston is fortunate to be home to this very unique center which not only operates a world-wide marine weather forecast center but host 5,000 visitors per year who come to learn about weather safety.

The Metro Networks Traffic Team of Marty Ambrose, Darby Douglas, Shawn Kincy, and Neal Rohrig won the tournament. The team of Dr. Neil Frank, Ron Frank, Dustin Tucker and Greg Jacobson were second. The National Weather Service Team made up of Bill Read, Gene Hafele, and Shelby Meadows were third.

The Crystal #1 was again awarded to Dr. Neil Frank who was the best weathercaster on the golf course. The Weather Channel Team of Keith Westerlage, Marshall Seese, Eric Goodloe, and Jim Ankeny were fourth and vow that next year they will beat Dr. Frank and take the Crystal# 1 back to Atlanta.

Major Sponsors of The 7th Annual Weatherman’s Classic were BP, KHOU-TV, Embassy Suites – near the Galleria, Antone’s Import Co., Sam’s Club and Stewart and Stevenson’s Houston Branch.

The Weatherman’s Classic is hosted by Weather Research Center and benefits The Weather Museum at Weather Research Center. For more information go to www.weatherresearchcenter.com or www.theweathermusem.org.
