Storm Navigator ®

President of Weather Research Center Jill F. Hasling and Dr. John C. Freeman, both Certified Consulting Meteorologists by the American Meteorological Society, have used their many years of experience in meteorology and numerical model programming to develop Storm Navigator® - a model to track severe weather events such as tropical cyclones, hurricanes, typhoons and other severe weather events. These advisories are available at WRC's website http://www.wxresearch.com under the section called Storm Navigator.

The key to an effective hurricane advisory or severe weather advisory service is communication between the meteorologist and the client. Weather Research Center specializes in briefing the client and discussing their weather problems and critical values.

The storm forecast methods were started in the mid 1950’s when Dr. Freeman started providing hurricane advisories for coastal facilities and offshore facilities along the Gulf of Mexico and hurricane advisories over the decades. Mrs. Hasling joined him in the mid 1970's and began programming the hurricane wind and wave models that are used today. These models are continually being verified and improved for locations all over the world. The Internet allows Storm Navigator to give faster and easier access to the advisories during an extreme weather event.

Storm Navigator links the user to NOAA satellite and color radar imagery and color satellite imagery plus unlimited access to Weather Research Center's detailed Hurricane/Typhoon/Cyclone Advisories and detailed hurricane wind forecasts both offshore and inland and graphics of forecasted track and probabilities. This service also gives you access to the Center's meteorologist for further explanation of how the storm can affect your operations. Weather Research Center meteorologists can build your own personal web page can be designed for you to make accessing weather information quick and easy.

The Weather Research Center was established as a non-profit educational and research organization. The Center provides educational programs through its research and consulting services in meteorology and oceanography. These services include worldwide weather forecasting. Offshore and inland forecasts are available for any location in the world. These services are provided over the Internet, via fax or email.

The staff is dedicated to the advancement of the profession of meteorology and oceanography. This is accomplished through education of the young professional by developing and offering summer fellowships and other educational and training opportunities for students who have a distinct interest in the weather. The policy under which the staff operates is to strive toward the advancement of scientific research techniques and to improve the awareness of environmental impact through better communication links between communities of business and science.
